Getting Started
The Initial Consultation:
During your first visit to the orthodontist, we will evaluate you or your child’s orthodontic needs. You’ll have a chance to view our practice, meet the doctor and the rest of the staff, and ask any questions that you may have. At this free initial evaluation, we will:
- Review your medical and dental history
- Perform a complete oral exam to determine if and when treatment is needed
- Estimate a treatment time
- Review the approximate treatment fee
The Diagnostic Records Appointment:
We understand that each patient has unique concerns and goals for treatment. Diagnostic records will allow the orthodontist to diagnose the patient and design a customized treatment plan to assure that the patient receives the best treatment possible. These records include: a detailed clinical exam, digital photos of your teeth and face, digital panoramic and cephalometric x-rays, and impressions to make study models of your teeth.
Treatment Conference and Financial Consultation:
During the treatment conference, treatment options and a personalized treatment plan will be presented. We will discuss with you in detail the problems to be corrected and how the treatment goals will be met. We’ll also review any special appliances that you may need and at which stage in treatment they will be used. Important issues such as compliance with oral hygiene and elastic wear will be highlighted to ensure you finish your treatment on time and with ease.
Placement of Braces:
This is one of the most exciting visits! Placing braces on your teeth generally takes about an hour. We will review in detail how to brush and floss, and go over the “do not eat” list.
During Orthodontic Treatment:
Patients are normally seen for about 30 minutes every 4-6 weeks during active treatment. It is essential that patients do not miss these appointments, as doing so can delay progress and increase the total treatment time.
